Austin Kitchen Remodel in Tarrytown with Custom Island & Quartzite
Custom Inset Walnut Cabinets, Crystallo Antigua Premium Quartzite & LED-Lit Island
This Austin kitchen remodel in the Tarrytown neighborhood combined custom cabinetry, plumbing modifications, premium natural stone, and integrated lighting to create a completely new centerpiece for the kitchen.
The project included building a new kitchen island with custom inset walnut shaker cabinets, adding plumbing to the island for a second sink and dishwasher, and replacing the existing surfaces with 3cm Crystallo Antigua Premium quartzite countertops and backsplash from Stratus Surfaces.
One of the defining features of the finished kitchen is the custom LED lighting integrated beneath the quartzite island countertop, illuminating the natural stone and turning the island into a dramatic architectural feature.
Before the Tarrytown Kitchen Remodel
Before the remodel, the kitchen did not have the custom island, secondary sink, island dishwasher, or continuous quartzite surfaces that define the finished space.
Creating the new island required coordinating cabinetry, plumbing, appliances, stone fabrication, and lighting as interconnected parts of the remodel rather than treating the island as a standalone cabinet installation.

After the Austin Kitchen Remodel
The finished kitchen is centered around the new custom walnut island. Inset shaker cabinetry gives the island a furniture-style appearance, while the addition of a second sink and dishwasher makes the island an important functional work area as well as the visual focal point of the room.
Crystallo Antigua Premium quartzite extends across the countertops and vertically onto the backsplash, creating continuity throughout the kitchen. Integrated LED lighting beneath the island countertop highlights the natural stone and adds another dimension to the finished design.

Custom Inset Walnut Kitchen Island
The new island was designed as both a major visual feature and a functional expansion of the kitchen. Custom inset walnut shaker cabinets give the island a distinctive furniture-style appearance while adding cabinetry and workspace at the center of the room.
Unlike a cosmetic island replacement, this project required multiple trades to work together. The island design incorporated cabinetry, plumbing, appliances, natural stone fabrication, and integrated lighting into one finished feature.
Adding a Second Sink & Dishwasher to the Kitchen Island
Creating a second working area within the island required new plumbing rather than simply installing new cabinetry. Plumbing was added to accommodate both a second sink and an additional dishwasher within the custom island.
This changed the functionality of the kitchen by creating another location for washing, cleanup, and food preparation while incorporating those utilities directly into the new island design.
Crystallo Antigua Premium Quartzite Countertops & Backsplash
Natural stone is one of the most prominent materials in this Tarrytown kitchen. The project uses 3cm Crystallo Antigua Premium quartzite from Stratus Surfaces across both the countertops and backsplash.
Using the same quartzite for the horizontal countertops and vertical backsplash creates a continuous stone installation rather than introducing a separate tile backsplash. Each portion had to work visually with the custom walnut cabinetry and the other architectural elements of the kitchen.

Custom LED-Lit Quartzite Island
The island includes one of the most distinctive details in the entire remodel: custom LED lighting beneath the quartzite countertop.
Instead of treating lighting only as illumination from above, the island design incorporates light directly into the countertop installation. When illuminated, the lighting emphasizes the stone itself and transforms the island into a focal point within the kitchen.
A Coordinated Custom Kitchen Remodel
This project demonstrates why more complex Austin kitchen remodeling requires coordination between design decisions and construction details.
The custom island could not be considered separately from the plumbing required for the second sink and dishwasher. The cabinetry had to work with those utilities, the quartzite fabrication had to work with the cabinet and appliance layout, and the integrated lighting had to be planned around the stone installation.
Coordinating those elements as one remodel allowed the finished island, cabinetry, plumbing, appliances, quartzite, and lighting to function as one cohesive kitchen design.
