Westlake Hills Kitchen Remodel with Two-Tone Cabinet Painting

Edgecomb Gray Cabinets, Iron Mountain Island & New Tile Backsplash

This Westlake Hills kitchen remodel transformed the existing kitchen without replacing the cabinetry. By combining professional cabinet painting, a new tile backsplash, new cabinet hardware, a custom pullout trash can, and fresh wall paint, we were able to update both the appearance and everyday functionality of the kitchen.

The perimeter cabinets were painted Benjamin Moore HC-173 Edgecomb Gray in a satin finish, while the kitchen island was painted Benjamin Moore 2134-30 Iron Mountain in satin. The contrasting colors created a two-tone kitchen design while allowing the existing cabinet system and layout to remain.

The kitchen walls were painted Benjamin Moore OC-19 Seapearl in a matte finish, providing a fresh neutral backdrop for the newly painted cabinets and backsplash.

Before the Westlake Hills Kitchen Remodel

The existing kitchen layout and cabinet boxes were still functional, so complete cabinet replacement wasn't necessary for this project. Instead, the remodel focused on updating the existing cabinetry and surrounding finishes while adding a practical storage improvement.

After the Westlake Hills Kitchen Remodel

The finished kitchen demonstrates how significantly an existing space can change without replacing the cabinets. Edgecomb Gray brightens the perimeter cabinetry, while the darker Iron Mountain island creates contrast and gives the center of the kitchen greater visual definition.

Two-Tone Kitchen Cabinet Painting

Rather than using one cabinet color throughout the kitchen, this Westlake Hills project uses two complementary Benjamin Moore colors to create contrast between the perimeter cabinetry and island.

Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Gray HC-173 gives the perimeter cabinets a warm neutral appearance, while Iron Mountain 2134-30 provides a much deeper contrasting finish on the island. Using the darker color selectively on the island creates a focal point without making all of the cabinetry feel dark.

Updating Existing Kitchen Cabinets Without Replacing Them

Because the existing cabinet boxes and kitchen layout could remain, professional cabinet painting allowed us to make a substantial visual change without complete cabinet replacement.

We also modified an existing cabinet to include a custom pullout trash can. This added everyday functionality to the kitchen while allowing the homeowners to retain their existing cabinetry.

New Tile Backsplash, Cabinet Hardware & Seapearl Walls

New cabinet hardware and a new tile backsplash completed the cabinet transformation. The kitchen walls were also painted Benjamin Moore Seapearl OC-19 in a matte finish, creating a fresh neutral backdrop around the two-tone cabinetry.

Together, the painted cabinets, contrasting island, backsplash, hardware, custom pullout, and wall painting created a cohesive kitchen update while preserving the existing cabinet system and layout.

Cabinet Painting vs. Replacing Kitchen Cabinets

Not every kitchen remodel requires new cabinets. When homeowners are happy with their existing kitchen layout and the cabinet boxes are in good condition, professional cabinet painting can dramatically change the appearance of the kitchen while preserving what already works.

Cabinet painting can also be combined with functional cabinet modifications, new hardware, backsplash tile, countertops, interior painting, and other targeted remodeling improvements.
